The BioAcoustic Mat uses vibroacoustic technology, combining music with low-frequency sound vibrations that can be physically felt throughout the body. Rather than simply listening to music, the body experiences rhythmic mechanical vibration through contact with the mat.
The system delivers low-frequency sound through speakers and transducers built into the mat. According to the manufacturer’s technical information, programmed frequencies generally range from approximately 30–88 Hz, with lower frequencies used for larger areas of the body and higher frequencies directed toward smaller areas.
Vibroacoustic therapy and related forms of rhythmic sensory stimulation have been studied for their potential effects on relaxation, pain, physical sensation and neurological responses to rhythm.
Our brains and nervous systems naturally respond to rhythm. One concept involved in sound-based therapies is entrainment—the tendency of biological activity to respond or synchronize to repetitive rhythmic stimulation.
The BioAcoustic Mat combines physical vibration with specially designed music and rhythmic sound patterns. Its programs are designed around different experiences, including relaxation, sleep, stress relief and energizing stimulation.
This creates two forms of sensory input at the same time:
Auditory stimulation — music and rhythmic sound are processed through the auditory system.
Tactile stimulation — low-frequency sound is converted into vibrations that can be physically felt through the body.
This combination is what distinguishes vibroacoustic therapy from simply listening to relaxing music.
Researcher Dr. Lee Bartel has studied the use of music, rhythmic sensory stimulation and low-frequency sound in health and rehabilitation, with particular interest in applications involving aging and pain. His work has explored how scientifically designed rhythmic stimulation may influence physical and neurological responses.
The BioAcoustic Mat's programmed tracks were developed using concepts involving rhythmic stimulation, music and different patterns intended to support states such as relaxation, sleep and alertness.
During a session, you don't just hear the sound—you feel the rhythm and vibration through the mat. This provides simultaneous auditory and physical sensory stimulation while you rest comfortably.
For this reason, we use the BioAcoustic Mat as a wellness and relaxation tool that may complement massage, Reiki and other restorative services.
Vibroacoustic therapy is not intended to diagnose, treat or cure a medical condition, and individual experiences can vary.
At Happie Soul Wellness in Mechanicsburg, PA, we use the Richway BioMat Professional as another way to support relaxation, comfort and restorative wellness.
The BioMat combines far-infrared heat, an amethyst surface and negative-ion technology into a comfortable mat that can be used by itself or incorporated into select wellness and bodywork experiences.
But what makes the BioMat especially interesting to us isn't simply how relaxing it feels—it's the science being explored around far-infrared thermal therapy.
Far-infrared radiation, commonly abbreviated FIR, is a portion of the electromagnetic spectrum. Unlike ultraviolet radiation, far-infrared energy is non-ionizing.
When used in thermal wellness devices, FIR energy produces gentle heat. Researchers have investigated far-infrared thermal therapy for its potential effects on the body's physiological responses to heat, including circulation, vascular function, relaxation and pain.
Research into infrared thermal therapy continues to evolve, and the amount and quality of evidence varies considerably depending on the specific condition being studied.
The BioMat provides a heated surface using far-infrared technology combined with layers containing amethyst.
As you rest on the mat, the goal is simple: create a warm, comfortable environment that encourages the body to slow down and relax.
Heat therapy has long been used to temporarily soothe sore muscles and joints, decrease muscular stiffness and promote local circulation. Far-infrared technology offers another method of delivering therapeutic warmth.
The result?
A deeply relaxing experience that can complement massage therapy, Reiki, restorative bodywork or simply give you time to stop doing and start resting.
And sometimes your nervous system needs exactly that.
Scientific studies have explored far-infrared thermal therapy in several areas of health and wellness.
Published research has investigated potential effects involving:
Temporary pain relief and physical comfort
Blood flow and vascular function
Muscle and joint relaxation
Physiological responses to therapeutic heat
Stress and relaxation
Cardiovascular responses to infrared thermal therapy
Research involving infrared sauna therapy has produced some promising findings, particularly regarding vascular function, cardiovascular markers and chronic pain. However, studies are generally small, and research involving infrared saunas should not automatically be interpreted as proof that every far-infrared device produces the same results.
Research specifically involving the BioMat is much more limited.
That's an important distinction.
At Happie Soul Wellness, we believe holistic wellness should be able to coexist with science. We don't need to promise miracles to provide an experience that feels incredible.
Happie Soul Wellness can also combine the BioMat with vibroacoustic therapy.
While the BioMat provides therapeutic warmth, the BioAcoustic Mat allows you to both hear music and physically feel low-frequency sound vibrations through the mat.
This creates several forms of sensory input simultaneously:
Heat + vibration + sound + intentional rest.
Vibroacoustic therapy and rhythmic sensory stimulation are areas of ongoing research examining how rhythmic sound and vibration interact with the nervous system, physical sensation, relaxation and pain perception.
For clients whose bodies seem to have forgotten where the "off" switch is, this creates a completely different relaxation experience.
At Happie Soul Wellness, the BioMat isn't positioned as a cure or replacement for medical treatment.
Instead, we use it as one more tool within our larger approach to wellness.
Depending on your service, BioMat and BioAcoustic experiences may complement:
Massage therapy
Reiki and energy work
Stress-management sessions
Rest and recovery
Meditation
Bodywork and nervous-system-focused wellness
Our philosophy has always been that wellness isn't one-size-fits-all.
Sometimes your body needs movement.
Sometimes it needs skilled bodywork.
Sometimes it needs quiet.
And sometimes it needs permission to lie on a warm amethyst mat and do absolutely nothing for a while.
We are very supportive of that last one.
